Hi this is my first post on this website.
My name is Roger I am from the British Columbia Okanogan Valley 38 miles from the Washington state/BC border. I love to fish and Hunt and am an amateur Chef. I have a Cobb Cooker which I use to smoke hotdogs. Well probably not smoked correctly but I like the hickory taste that results. I have also done smoked corn on the cob with great success on My Cobb.
I was thinking of getting a cheapo smoker then out of the blue my wife tells me she wants me to buy a proper smoker how cool is that? That makes it her idea not mine so I can't get heck for overspending a bit, can I?

I haven't a clue how to smoke meats or just what equipment I should get. I checked out some websites that sell smokers but just got bogged down in all the info. I thought it might be a really good idea to check with folks such as the members on this forum on how to start. I don't want to commit a huge amount of bux buying a smoker that just won't do a good job.

I plan to read a lot of the posts in the next week or so to get the general idea and them perhaps ask for recommendations on what smoker to buy.

Welcome to the forum Roger, glad to have you here!
Lots of good info here and some really great folks willing to help. :)

Welcome from Michigan where we know what a BC two-hander is ;{) Look into a cheap ECB-type smoker Brinkmann- for like 40 dollars. They work. They also teach you fire and smoke management..key points in the art of smoking. BUT... there's some SFB models that are worth it to the gnubee too!

Welcome to SMF glad you joined us. You will find lots of info here and some great recipes as well. I would suggest signing up for Jeff's 5 Day Ecourse its full of good info to get you started and its free. I also have a propane smoker and really like how easy it is. Have fun and happy smoking

Welcome to the SMF, plenty of good reading here to help you make that first decision. It's cool that your wife is on your side of the fence, maybe she'll get into the Q thing. Good luck my friend from BC.

I can be a little slow at times but I finally figured out what OTBS means.

, I am going to sign up for the 5 day course. Free is a good price IMO.
