Hey everybody! I have been pouring over this forum since I joined. I think my brain is going to explosed with an overload of information. Recently my cousin got me hooked on smoking, so I have been trying my hand at it.

But not having a smoker on my own, I have been improvising on a propane grill. I have a "smoker box" made out of a cheap disposable aluminum minimeatloaf pan and a nice large water pan to help me regulate my temps. They just sit on the main grate of the grill, and I smoke on the top grate. I have had pretty good luck so far. Even gotten some nice smoke rings in some country style ribs.

I want to buy a smoker but my wife might as well be a vegetartian. She just isnt' a big fan of meat. It makes it had to justify the purchase just for me. Maybe next summer...

I am learning quite a bit from this forum and am looking forward to the Fattie Throwdown!

Welcome, Glad to have you with us. This is the place to learn, lots of good info and helpful friendlymembers.

Be sure to check out Jeff's 5Day Smoking Basics eCourse, you can find it here it's "FREE"... 5 Day e Course

As for buying a smoker, check your local Craig's Lists, here in Kansas City we have them posted on there all the time sometimes for as little as $10.00 - $15.00 up. It is a place to start.

Already on Day 3 of the eCourse.

First off welcome to SMF. You'll like it here cause there are alot of good people here that would just love to help you with just about anything to do with smoking. first you should look up the 5-Day E-course it's free and chunked slap full of good smoking information that will come in handy. Now as far as the smoker problem you have I think (and it doesn't hurt anymore) you should go out and buy you a Gosm. It's small enough that you mite be able to a cute little dollly thingey and throw over and call it a table. but they work really well and it's propane so it almost a set it and forget it type but you'll get some really good Q out of it. then just remember some times it's easier to get forgiveness then it is permisstion. Gotta run I think I see your wife.. See ya

welcome Bobby, where in NY are ya?
My family is indifferent to my smoked food but I don't let that stop me. ( they never complain about it when the eat it)
Look into a ECB, they're inexpensive and a good unit to start off with.

I am located in the Southern Tier, gettign close the to PA border. About one hour dead south of Rochester. How about you guys?

That would put me one hour dead north! Do any deer hunting down there? Some nice bucks come out of that area.

I'm not a hunter, but if someone else wants to shoot it, I will surely eat it. Deer and turkey seasons are HUGE down here.

Welcome aboard Bobby....nothing at all wrong with smoking the way you're doing it now.
Heck ...we've got guys out there smoking in garbage cans

I actually bought the supplies to make my own smoker, but the cost just kept adding up. I figured I would save my money now, and buy something nice later. I will keep faking it with my propane grill.

welcome from a Southerner displaced to the midwest

Glad to have you aboard, and take a cruise around your hardware stores with an open eye. Starting towards the end of AUG you can get all kinds of barbecue and smoking equipment for really good prices as the stores try to trim inventory for winter.

Welcome to the forums, Bobby! Glad you joined us. You'll find lots of expert help from the friendly people here. Hey maybe your wife isn't a meat fan because she hasn't tasted the great que your gonna be turning out.

Welcome to the best smoking site on the net, SMF that is. Glad to know you're improvising as needed, it's all good my friend.
