For anyone looking for a good general guide to smokers and smoking techniques, I highly recommend this book...beginners and experienced alike. This is a real commom sense and "non-judgmental" book that takes an "if it works for you then go ahead and use it" approach to smoking unlike some of the "purist" books out there.

This book can help guide anyone to the right euipment and the right techniques to help them turn out an excellent product. Some great recipes are included for Sauces, Rubs and lots of smoked meats, etc. I'm not associated with them in any way, but really liked the book and some of the techniques covered by it. Ray Lampe is well known on the Championship Circuit and also has a website www.drbbq.com that has some good recipes and stuff on it.

I'd like to follow up on what Gene has posted. I just purchased the book and have read most of it. There are some really great recipes and tips for smoking as well as grilling. As Gene has said, Ray Lampe takes a very practical approach to smoking. I especially like the way the book is laid out. It's a good read and easy to bookmark. I will be using a lot of the material with my smoker.

This may be another book I add to my library. I already have 20-some cookbooks on smoking and grilling so I probably don't need it, however, I do NEED it.

It is a great book, has anyone read the new one as of yet. I plan to buy it this weekend either from online or the neighborhood bookstore if they carry it.

Iceman,
I have the new one. It's called Dr. BBQ's All Year Long! Cookbook. I can't decide whether I like the first one or this one best. The second one (All Year Long!) is layed out in a chronological manner with menus and recipes for the various seasons/occasions. For example, He presents a Summer Solstice: Stonehenge British Barbeque Menu. It has Smoked Portobello Mushrooms with Goat Cheese and a Red Onion Confit; Stuffed Terderloin of Pork; Garlic, Lemon, and Thyme Roasted Chicken Breasts; Crushed New Potatoes; A Medley of Roasted Summer Vegetables; and it is all topped off with Summer Fruit Pudding. I haven't tried everything in this presentation but I can tell you that his Stuffed Terderloin of Pork is outstanding!!! IMHO it's another winner and I'm certainly glad that I got it.
