I am curious as to what positions you have your vents when using this smoker? Just reading here http://www.wyntk.us/food/gosm-propan...al-guide.shtml and in step 7 it pretty much says to close down all 3 vents and leave it that way. There is no mention over ever opening them back up. Is there a case when you would want them fully open?
    Thanks

It's always been my impression that you want to control air flow with the lower vents. Air can't be made... natural convection causes it to be taken in low and exhausted high. The only reason to partially close a top vent is to help up temps a bit..AFTER you have opened the lowers to allow more air to the fire. This is much less of an issue with non-stickburners tho. With a gas unit, I see no reason to ever close the top vents. Leave 'em open.

I have the GOSM big block. I usually close the lower vents down as far as they will go (there's a small stop on them that keeps them about 1/4 open). But I keep the top vent fully open. Good luck.
