I had a tree die this winter. Actually it has been going for the last couple of years. The good news is it's a Maple.....
It is pretty dry and has been fully dead for about 5 months.
    Is it ready to burn?

Gotta get to choppin on Sunday[IMG]

No not yet I think. I would split it into the size for your smoker and then let it sit for a couple of months till it looks dried out and starts to get litle splits in the ends of it. Then you should be dry enough for burning and smoking.

Cut and split it once your done burn a piece and see if you get any moisture coming out either end if so it needs to season longer if not then your good to go

Yes; you will see, hear, the liquid coming out of the ends of the wood if it is not well seasoned.
