On Friday I will be traveling to Austin, Texas for the weekend. Tuesday will be Franklin's for lunch before we head back.

On Friday, I am planning to go a little further and have dinner at one of the places in Lockhart

My choices are:

Kreuz Market

Smitty's Market

or Black's Barbecue

I hope we will be in Lockhart by about 5:00 or 5:30 at the latest. What are the chances that we will still be able to get some good barbecue, specifically brisket?

It looks like Black's is open the latest, until 8:30pm and Kreuz until 8:00pm, and Smitty's closes at 6:00pm on Fridays.

Those of you from the area or who have been there....What's the situation on a Friday evening?

Smittys is my fav. in Lockhart.  The others are good...but I like Smittys better.  Also, bring CASH!  No plastic taken at some of those places.  They have a private owned ATM machine with big fees if you do not have cash.

You should still be able to get brisket until closing time.

Enjoy!!!

There is a place in Spicewood called Opies that puts lockhart to shame. Its on HWY 71 past Lakeway, well worth the drive. Best sausage that I ever had brisket is pretty darn good too.

So, our plans changed. Instead of Austin, we ended up going to Tyler. I guess Franklins will have to wait until next time.

Anybody have any suggestions for top notch barbecue in Tyler?

Eating dinner at the Purple Pig, in Flint, Texas. Standby for the AAR...
