G'day from South Australia

  1. Hay guys. New to the hobby.
Based in mount gambier, south aus.
Enjoy camping and 4wd'n with the wife and 2 girls, 3 and nearly 2...

So I've just completed a keg smoker.
Kegs been in my shed for roughly 5 years lol and after having a night at a mates house who also smokes food and well 5 days later the keg was done.

Anyway its quite simple. Can use with gas or charcoal. I've added an air flow setup to the base to control the heat..
A simple setup of bolts to hold 2 shelves.
I've removed the spout and that's the vent..
I've also added a simple $10 thermometer to keep tab of the cooking temp..

So first crack was Friday night with charcoal for the heat and red gum shavings.
First mistake was the lack of fuel. Only lasted 1 1/2 hours but chicken was still raw. I cranked it back up and left for another hour and it's was perfect.
Probably a bit over smoked. Was very strong. I liked it but a bit much for the wife.

So a few things already learn.. Need more beads.. And a little less smoke..

    But live and learn..
