I picked up a bag of Full Circle Lump last night, Schnucks had it on sale for 4.99 per 8.8 pound bag.

Somewhat of a "dirty" little secret, but there are not all that many charcoal kilns around. A lot of the various brands all come from the same kiln. It's the same stuff, just a different label on the bag. We toured a kiln about 20 years ago and they had upwards of 20 different bag labels in their warehouse. The most innovative product I can recall was a 2 pound bag of self lighting lump. It had been dipped in paraffin wax, put in a white paper bag and that put in a decorative brown paper bag. On the label was "Brewer Bag". It was self starting lump sold to Milwaukee Brewer fans for tailgait BBQ's. Put the white paper bag and charcoal on a small Weber Kettle, light the bag and in less than 10 minutes you were grilling. And none of the stink associated with lighter fluid. Something to remember if you want to make your own self lighting lump.

I don't know if it's confidential information they would admit too, or if you would have to find out by "stealthy" means.......like wandering around lost in the warehouse.....to find out which labels a certain kiln bags for. Back then, I distinctly remember seeing Schnuck's labeled bags. The stuff you got is probably someone's label, but is generic stuff.....and if from the Missouri Ozark's kilns......is mostly oak and is very good stuff.

I've been buying mine straight from a kiln at Belle. Next time I'm there, I'll stick my head in to see what I can see.

And if it is from Missouri it probably is made by Kingsford down near Herman Mo. I used to deliver parts to them for IBT.
