What say thee???? I tend to do this with steak, burgers, and even pork chops  and chicken breasts. I'm not good about getting the food out in the morning to thaw!

My grocer is so close I rarely freeze meat, always using fresh.  I can't even remember the last time I browned a steak on the stove but the browning process appears essential for safely eating a frozen meat.

I only do this with frozen beef patties from Costco. Never had a problem, but I'm not sure I'd try it with larger cuts or poultry.

  4. I've cooked burgers frozen to pan quite often. Never tried a steak, but will try soon!!!

I'm like you , Case. I never seem to know what I want for supper until about 5 o'clock and everything is frozen. So I've cooked a ton of frozen steaks , chops and chicken breasts over the years.(mostly with good results) I have to admit that in my younger days , I would occasionally over cook said frozen meats due to a lack of training....but I have now got a thermapen and a much better feel for how long is long enough to make sure the meat is up to a good IT. I almost never ruin frozen meat on the grill these days.

The only issues I have with this method is there's no marinating or preseason if. I suppose if you marinated of season then freeze that would solve that. Course you have to plan to do that before you freeze!

  7. Thermapens are awesome. I can't believe I went so long without one. They may be a little pricey, but I think they're worth every penny.

Exaaaactly ! The hallmark of the frozen steak at my house is simple seasoning. But I have to say that sweetie always says " I like it when you cook steak like this , just salt & pepper" (she is a very uncomplicated person)
