flamebuster high heat latex

Hello all, I have a quick question about sealing my sfb to my smoke chamber and making gaskets for my doors on my offset smoker. Im also curious about using it to seal the small cracks around the drums edges. Just want to make sure I'm using a safe product that isn't toxic or harmful. Sorry if I have put this thread in the wrong section. I looked around at my local menards for what to use and came across Flamebuster high heat latex caulk that resists temperatures up to 1380•f so I grabbed some. I have searched around to see if others have used this product or have some experience with it but have not found any useful info. Any insight on this product is appreciated. Oh and just so it's out there, I own a Brinkman snp professional that I got from my uncle. I have been redoing it and am about done with painting it. So id like to get it together soon and seal up the boxes. Thanks in advance..

I see lots of guys are using permatex high heat RTV which I think is silicone. It is the red stuff. I don't know if latex off gasses at a certain heat or not but it seems like a lot of folks are using the RTV.

Yea i searched for the rtv but didnt see it unfortunately.Im not sure if it makes a difference or not but the stuff i got is red. Im unsure if color means anything or not. I guess ill wait for a few others to throw some answers out before i decide what to do from here. Heres a picture of it..

Dang, I just don't know. You could pull up the MSDS off the internet and see what temp. it gasses off at if it does. I just know that silicone stuff is food grade.

I just bought an off-set smoker as well, and will be using the Flamebuster latex for sealing the firebox.  I'll be getting the gaskets from BBQgaskets.com for the door seals.  From the MSDS, it looks like the biggest handling concern is the caustic.  Just make sure you wash your hands after applying it.

The biggest health hazard is the silica dust created when you sand it.  I've never used the stuff before, but I'm guessing it sets up pretty hard if you have to sand it.  It doesn't look like there's anything there that will off-gas.  Wear a dust mask if you have to sand the caulk and season the smoker well.  You should be good to go.
