I just bought my first smoker it's a Char-Griller Super with the fire box, i'm sure you all know what i'm talking about. My question is should i use charcoal in the side box and then add wood. I'm starting to second quess my goal here, last few days i been in this forum i read about all the great things you guys have done and i dont want to make a big mistake on the first run. Any and all help appreciated.

I have that unit. I use lump charcoal with a few wood chunks for the smoke flavor. The first run may not be perfect, but you'll learn on the journey. Make sure you season the unit first. I seasoned mine by spraying the inside of the main chamber and fire box with PAM, and built a big fire and got it up to 300F for about an hour. I seasoned my grates as per the instructions that came with the unit.

Good luck and keep us posted. Keep asking questions.

Take care, have fun, and do good!
