If you get on the Big poppa site, they have a step by step video.

  3. I am a bit jealous, the Big Poppa Drum kit is on my bucket list.  I will have to wait a few months, I have bought a few too many grills/smokers lately; the wife thinks the front yard is looking a bit too much like Sanford and Sons.

1  build UDS post pics as you go.

What about a burnout is that required

I'd wait until your kit comes and drill the air intake holes first, then burn it out.  Don't burn lid too hot or it will warp.

There will be templates and instructions in your kit, also a video on youtube...but drilling those holes will help do the burn good.

    Do i need a diffuser

    I use one sometimes.

That's the diffuser that's in my Big Poppa now.  It lets drippings through but still diffuses the heat.

I use a cheap pizza pan from Walmart wrapped in aluminum foil in my uds. I don't have the big poppa kit, but I wouldn't use my uds without it, unless I was going to use the bottom rack as a grill.

  13. I have a diffuser that I use about half of the time. Yes you can burn it out If you don't have a sandblaster.

You may have to wire brush some after the burnout.

    Happy smoken.

I have a UDS in which I installed two cooking grills, and I use the lower one for a water (or Apple juice) bowl. The bowl is about 10" dia and my charcoal basket is about 15" so the bowl not only serves as a liquid container, but it subs as a diffuser too
