I want to smoke my first chicken this weekend. Is it beter to smoke the whole bird straight up or use the beer can method?
Also, I want to use something other than beer if I go with that method. Can you use a can filled with marinade?
For the chcken preperation, is it better to brine and rub or inject a marinade?

Thanks

IMO rub and inject is the best way to go.

The beer can thing is really a gimmick. The secret to that is the humidity it is adding to keep the bird from drying out. But it can be done with Simple Syrup, Apple Juice, beer, or anything else that has a sugar base to it with water.

What he said. Don't forget you have the option to spatchcock the bird.
