I personaly believe that firefighters enjoy this time of year. I have NEVER seen them safely place a turkey into a fryer. Seems they always fail.

Where can I find one of those long handled hooks? I always have to get much closer to get my bird in the oil. I also see I haven't been using near enough oil to get the outside of the pot washed good.

I saw a guy on the Food Network use a ladder with a rope and pulley system to lower then raise his turkey into/out of the oil.

That'd be good ol' AB. Alton Brown, that is. Apparently they've never fried their own turkey's, 'cause why would you fry a frozen bird..and why would you dump it in the oil from 6 ft away? I've always had better luck with live turkey's and my head right above the oil. In my folks' kitchen.
