trying a new marinade for beef kabobs today. i came up with this on my own, so it's untested; however, it smells and tastes great. i've got 3 lbs of beef round cubes marinating in it as we speak. it seems to be a good fusion of east and west. how will it taste? i'll let you know.

the marinade consists of
  • 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 cup water (red wine should have been used here, but i have none
  • 1/4 cup kikkoman teriyaki sauce
  • 1 evnelope GrillMates marinade (i used mesquite because it is what we had, but anyone should use their preferred variety)
  • 1 envelope old el paso taco seasoning (low sodium)
will let them marinate a few hours, then skewer them up and put them on the gas grill.

i rummaged around the pantry and found a box of oriental rice-a-roni and a box of zatarains spanish rice. will combine the two for a side dish.

Sounds like all good ingredients. Let us know how it works out.

these turned out pretty dang good - maybe a bit salty due to the marinade mix, but the flavor underneath was a good blend. it would be goodto come up with the ingredients of teh marinade without the salt.

3 lbs of round steak makes a lot of kabobs!

we also chopped up some zucchini and skewered them on with tomatoes - we brushed a 50/50 mixture of teriyaki sauce and olive oil on them....

they grilled a few mintues on each side while the beef kabobs finished on the warming rack.

when all was finished, we wrapped them in foil for 5 minutes or so to rest....

then served them up with some oriental rice-a-roni. i also found a box of zatarains spanish rice and combined that. i didn't have a can of diced tomatoes, so that was missing from the rice, but everything turned out good.

all-in-all, i'd do this one again!

Those look amazing, really nice. Been a loooong time since I have done kabobs, have to make some now. Gonna try your marinade recipe, sounds good though I'll try to do it with less salt as per your results.
Thanks for sharing.

thanks, guys -

FiU - if you can eliminate some salt it would be good. i added none to mine and also used low-sodium taco seasoning (el paso is the best, in my opinion) but it still seemed a bit on the salty side to my wife.

having said that, i'm one of those folks who like salty food, so they tasted great to me.

Real good looking dinner! Can't wait for the summer veggies from the garden for fresh kabobs. Thanks for the ppost, nop I'm starving
