Does this happen to anyone else?

I have a Maverick ET-732 and I am on my second Maverick ET732 Genuine Smoker & Chamber Probe  (BBQ Pit Temp Probe).

Here's my issue... During a cook, the temperature display will jump up and down, display LLL and/or HHH and then eventually go back to what i assume is the correct temperature.  As an example, this is what i might see in a 10 minute period - 275, 400, 150, LLL, and then back to 275.  This will happen 3-4 times in a 2 hour cook.

My original probe did not do this. Has this happened to anyone else? Why does it do this?

You got one of the haunted probes. Or, and possibly more likely, there is an intermittent short in there somewhere and as the bimetallic sensor expands its arcing back and forth, causing the random readings. Thirdly and least likely it might be as simple as the plug isn't pushed far enough into the transmitter so its losing contact. Try pushing it in harder, and if the trouble persists send it back to where you bought it.

The plug is fully engaged and I don't believe in ghosts.

I think you are dead on with the short.  My first probe crapped out because I was a little careless and  disturbed the connection between the wire and the probe. So, I have been extra careful with this new probe. I'll have to look into Amazon's return policy and hopefully, I can return it for a new one.

Thanks for your input

I agree that I think it's a short. Brand new when I first inserted the probes in my ET-733 I got the HHH display until I unplugged and replugged them a couple of times and did the sync thing. Haven't had that problem since.
