Hello,

I'm trying to determine the benefit / need for a damper between the firebox and smoking chamber. I've seen them built both ways, so....

I am building a smoker now, and wanted to get some advice before I get past that stage. Mine will be a under fire box? where my firebox is a pair of propane tanks welded together, underneath a large compressor tank, running 2 - 4" pipes between, and having a dispersing plate in the bottom of the smoking chamber to even out the heat coming up.

Thanks in advance.

Its not going to hurt anything at all by having a damper. In all honesty, you want your fire to be drafting correctly so that you are making the right smoke. But, if it happened to get hot on ya, with a damper you could at least shut it down so you dont nuc your food.

I would think that it would be nice to have.
