Kroger has tri-tips buy one get one free. I'm SURE it's still expensive... it's the Angus Beef brand. But I have never seen one anywhere here.

I'm gonna try it.. any tri-tip advice?

Well, I was referring to the brisket sear method. I have never done a tip tho. When ya sear brisket ya do it before ya smoke it...err well, the Okie method is that way. Last I did I seared before I rubbed it too. After I applied a mustard base and rub. Seemed the rub was quite a bit more flavorful that way.

Just so I understand, a tri tip is a cut you want to cook to medium/medium rare? Costco in Brighton, Michigan sometimes has tri tip steaks. I asked if I could get a whole roast and the butcher said yes if they have them. I'n not even sure what a tri tip roast looks like. Anyone got a pic?

Thanx Ken! I appreciate the info and pic. Puttting it on the to do list.

Rich, Didn't mean to hijack the thread. Looking forward to seeing your Q-view of the tri tip.
