Hello All. I’ve started my first smoker build and have a couple questions. First question is how close can the lower cooking surface be to the Reverse Flow Plate? Is 2” to close?

I’ll stick to one question at a time I guess. Here’s a couple of pictures. The square in the pic is a 6 incher.

CC is 23” X 36”, FB will be 19” X 20” X 20”.

Thanks for reading.

My RF plate is ending up at 4" from the lower cook surface on the smoker I am building. I am definitely no expert but I would think that since we are using indirect heat with the RF plate heat soaking around 225* and air moving around it that you should be fine

Thanks for the input NWBHoss. I think I'm going to be fine. If somehow it does become a problem I can always move the bottom cooking surface up. My biggest mistake on this deal was not starting out with a completed drawing. But all it takes is a grinder, welder, and some time to change things. And maybe a couple beers.

I cannot believe how many changes I have made to my reverse flow since I started. Gone thru a few grinding discs for sure!

This site has a ton of good info and they are willing to help as long as you ask and listen.

It took me a long time to understand how the calculator works to get the sizes correct. DaveOmak was a huge help!
