I know this is the charcoal smokers section even though a few of the links are propane but figured it would be ok to ask my question here.
So I am figuring on getting a new smoker before this summer. Currently I'm not looking for anything really pricey or too serious but better than my ECB.
Going to check Craigslist and a few other local places but found a few at Walmart that aren't very pricey and was wondering if anyone had used them or in your ventures through smoking have ran into simi ar versions and what suggestions you may have.

So those are about the limit to my spending currentl and Walmart here seems to be cheaper than Lowes or Home Depot.
Thanks for any suggestions you guys could offer up.

I too am stuck with my ECB now. I have looked around and you need to pay a pretty penny for a good offset smoker. I am seriously considering building a UDS. It doesn't look that hard to do and I'm ready! I do have orders to fix the picnic table first though. Gonna bang that out and get a drum.

In the process of stripping an old oven with a side (not bottom) broiler compartment. This way I can smoke 2 things at a time and have 2 completely separate woods burning on either side. Would still love to own a decent quality "professional" store bought one.
Have wondering if I can add an adapter on one of the stacks where I could place a small smoke box containing meat or cheese and just stick it right on one of the top valves, that way I could cold smoke the same I am hot smoking whatever. Going to start a new thread and post a nift
y little picture I just designed with the oven smoker conversion ideas and what the removable "cold" smoker sort of looks like.

If your OK with Walmart, I'd go for the 20" wide GOSM @ (I think it's still) $147.00. Some stores stock them, or if you order online and have it shipped site-to-store, you don't pay for the shipping charges. I love my GOSM, it's the smallest one, and I get it crowded sometimes (16" wide), but, they are easy to operate once you get to know them. Some guys frown on gassers, not me.

    Good luck

I would guess that every member that has a different smoker would post a recomendation for the smoker that they have. I am no different.[IMG]

    Brinkman Gourmet Electric.
60 to 90 bucks depending when and where.
Upgrade it by adding more racks as the first move.

It has to be one of the most humble plain Jane things there is to look at, but it does the job

spend the money you save on a good digital thermometer or other goddies

Funny you mentioned that since it is precisely the smoker I own. Little red boy. Not a lot of space in the thing and I was planning on going for something that holds heat a bitter better and simpler plus something I can put more than a few meats on. Plus the meat you put on the bottow rack is more of a pain if you need to adjust it without moving all your meat on the top rack.
Guy on here named Mikey gave me some really great tips on improving the efficiency of it (if you are reading this Mikey then thank you) but I would still like one I can do a bit more with. The more things I can smoke at a time the better. Eventually figure out how to smoke a whole cow at once...
