Ok so now that I've rescued this gem from the rough, it's time for a little polish. I've got my friend ready to weld the shelving brackets in and put the handles on but before he does that I really want the inside to be ready for seasoning.
First question I have is what is the easiest way to remove rust. There's enough on the inside that it needs to be cleaned up. Mostly light rust but a little flaking in the firebox.
Second, in a smoker this big, would it be a good idea to put some kind of a clean out valve in the bottom? What size of a valve am I looking at?
Third, any suggestions on how to redirect that stack to pull from the bottom? It's too tight for the dryer vent...
And lastly, would it be overkill to paint the inside of the smoker and the grates to prevent further rust?
