I saw this mod somewhere, but can't remember where.
Worked great on my UDS.
This is a lamp repair kit. They can be found in any HD type store.

I did something similar with mine to prevent the wires from being crushed. 

BTW I'd deburr that hole and smooth it out before you run your wires though it. A small file or even some sand paper should do the trick. You can stuff the excess hole with a small wad of aluminum foil if you want. That helps retain just that little be more smoke and heat.
