I was going to try my first canadian bacon using Cowgirls dry cure. It calls for Morton's tender quick. After looking at two grocery stores and Gander Mountain all I could come up with was "Lem Cure". My question is, is this the same as tender quick? Will it work? The directions say 1/4 tsp per pound. Thanks to everyone in advance!

Dingle, I don't think it's the same. You might want to order Tenderquick online.
I have found TQ in the spice section of the local Walmart too....you might check there.
Good luck to you.

edited to add...I have never tried the Lem cure, I bet it would make fine canadian bacon...I'm just not familiar with the amounts you would use.

You are exactly the person I was hoping would respond to this question. Thank you. Truth is I was hoping you would answer the way you did because my pork loin is already in the cure. As long as it works right?

Dingle, I hope it works for you, please let me know how it goes.
I know there are several good canadian bacon cures out there...I just use TQ cause it's available to me and it's really easy to use. (don't tell anyone)

Thank you Cowgirl. Your secret is safe with me but......I think the cat is out of the bag. When I hear Morton's I think of salt. Do you think this Lem cure will accomplish the same?

:)
Dingle I bet it does.....
I've never tried it though. As long as you followed their directions, you should be just fine.
Can't wait to see how it comes out.

Thank you again Cowgirl. This site and the people on it rule!! QVIEW to come in 6 days.

You're sure welcome DINGLE....and thanks for all of your input into the forum too! Glad you're here.
