You can buy them at Bed Bath an Beyond but you will pay top dollar for it. You can also order one but I'm not a waiting type so I have to get and use it right then. Now you can get a regular thermometer and just test it to make sure it right. I have a bunch of thermo unitas of all types.

Not a big fan of maverick stuff even though I have 2 of them. If you are going wired then taylor makes a tough unit. Regardless the best prices I found for the ET73 was online. I did see them out but all I remember is they were grossly overpriced.

Yep taylors have worked for me, you can usually get'em pretty cheap. I just picked up 2 more for $13.99 each, free shipping

Our local Shopko has the Taylor wired one for $14.99. I have one, it's great. I plan on buying another one or two. Just waiting for them to have all the kitchen stuff on sale...

Hey squib where did you find them for that price?
Amazon... if you can't get them for 15 or less with free shipping, put a couple in your basket and check back frequently, there is a message pop up in your cart letting you know if the price dropped or went up since your last visit.

I have four of the Taylor units with single batteries, that I got from Target, and 3 of the probes have gone bad for me-they read way off...I don't know if I got them too wet cleaning them or what? I emailed Taylor, and that is what they said was most likely the problem. Anyone else had this problem? These are all 2 to 3 yrs old...is there some other brand that is a little better quality, or is this a normal thing that was my fault? It seems stupid to me that the probes can't get too wet, or they go bad. Too wet? Are you sh***ing me?! What a bunch of...

@KenY: Yes, I just ran into this problem last weekend. My meat probe started out measuring out at 105F (stick said 40F). Mine looks to have problems at the base of the probe where the wire enters. I am guessing bad storage.  As long as you are not submerging them I don't see how you can them any wetter than being in raw meat.

This vendor has better probes and far more expensive: http://thermoworks.com/. The USB datalogger looks interesting to my geekier side. Graphing the temp of a pork butt or brisket would be mildly interesting. It'd be cool if it would also measure chamber temp, air particulate levels (smoke), and humidity.

The TW362B  looks to be comparable to the Taylor. They also carry a Thermapen. I can't see using a Thermpen during a cook. Perhaps at the end to validate the meat temp or checking holding temps on a line. During a cook I prefer to keep the chamber closed.

I just had one go, was reading 150 degrees at room temp, no wonder my brisket seemed to cook waty too quick LOL

Below was taken from another thread on SMF

Sorry to ressurect this thread, but I think it's worthwile for anyone that's looking around for replacements. I just talked to customer service, and the $5 bucks per probe now incluces shipping and handling, so 3 probes will cost you a total of $15. Can't beat that anywhere else. Still will need to send check/money order, as they don't take credit cards.
