Ok, I gave up on the log starter type burners. They flamed out before i got the heat i wanted and so I fabricated a couple of foundry type jets the first one way to big. The big one was 3/4 inch black pipe and i sized down to a 1/2 inch pipe and shorter length. They both seem to function well with plenty of heat to boot. The venturi and orifice are from Tjas smokers and will be retained in the fire box via the SS nipple and sleeves with firebox wall clamped between the sleaves.

I want to put an elbow on this terminator tourch to turn 90 degrees and shoot the flame above and across my wood grate. Not sure if that is a good configuation but will buy a 2 inch nipple, elbow, and bell reducer in black pipe for the flare tomorrow and see how much of a problem it is like that. Any suggestions please let me know. The wife has been standing by with fire extinguisher to put me out and is getting nervous!

Just dawned on me Rick, did you have all your vents open when the loglighter was flaming out? I know that mine needs "full air" when it is by itself in the firebox (without burning wood to keep it going.) I keep all vents open and sometimes even crack the firebox door a bit. Thats why gas grills are so open and full of holes.

I am sure you already thought of that but wanted to mention it:-)

Steve

Steve, when I tested the burner it was not in the firebox but simply laid in the open cooking chamber with door wide open. Thanks for the thought though. Rick
