I know, I know, what in the heck is Bulgogi??? I'm gonna tell ya....
Bulgogi is a Korean style of bbq with a very tasty marinade. You'll love it!!!
As I was slicing rib eye steaks I figured why not slice some thin to make Bulgogi and post it here for ya'll too see. So here we go from start to finish.

    1 jar of Bulgogi marinade
1 1/2 lbs of thinly sliced rib eye (or however much yer gonna make)
Pretty easy ain't it.....But yer gonna love the flavor!!!!

The marinade can be found at Korean or most asian food stores, just ask for it.

Slicing the rib eye very thin. The thin slices are piled in the lower right.

Comparison pics of approx. how thick it should be.

Meat layed out with marinade and large bowl for mixing.

Poor about an inch of marinade into the bowl and begin adding your meat a slice at a time to cover both sides.

You may want to wear a glove when mixing, this stuff does permiate into meat and someone may wanna cook yer hand....LOL

Continue adding and coating the meat, allow the coated meat to stay in the bowl.

Now that your done coating the meat, cover and put it in the fridge.
1 or 2 hours is long enough but I usually leave it til the next day when I'm ready to cook it.

To be continued later this evening with final instructions and qview.[IMG]

nice.... looks like you got the method down.

I really enjoy Korean BBQ, a couple plates of marinated meat, and a table top charcoal grill all while drinking some OB's.

here are some shots of me @ Hae Woon Dae in Chicago for my last Korean BBQ dinner:

Mmmmmm, looks good!!!! But those don't look like traditional cut ribs for making Kalbi, they should be cross cut and 1/2 inch thick. And they didn't marinade the Bulgogi long enough, the meat is still red and should be brown colored from the marinade. Where is the rice and Kimchi?????
OMG, I think I've turned Korean!!!! [IMG] LMAO

sounds good, until then Ill have to drool over your version, you gonna eat the bulgogi wrapped in lettuce leaves?

btw, there's 2 Koren BBQ spots I know of that cook over live coals that are pretty similar. San Soo Gap San, and Hae Woon Dae, both on the N. Side.

Well, everything went good till I got a phone call. then into the toilet it went, and quick. Left the Bulgogi on to long and fried it. It was edible but not what it should have been. I ate it and let me tell ya, at least the rice (steamed in a rice cooker) and the Kimchi was very good.....lol

Here it is being put on the grill. Good so far...

Then came the phone call, this is what I came back too...oh no!!!!!

Here is what I had for dinner....

Oh well, some times I just screw up!!!! Glad it wasn't one of those rib eye steaks I cut........

My rating of myself on this smoke.....-10 points!!!!! [IMG]

Hey Oneshot, did you make your own Kimchee? I love that stuff and haven't had it since I lived in Springfield Mo. I used to go to Korea House #2 down there just for that. LOL

If you have a recipe that is good would you share? [IMG][IMG]

Bulgogi is awesome. I didn't know there was a store bought marinade for it though. We just made some the other night. We used to know some Koreans, and they cooked for us all the time. They were always setting food in front of me and saying "Eat!" I think they thought I was too skinny![IMG]

Our friends also made something similar with Pork, but it was always fairly spicy. They would eat it on lettuce with some sort of bean paste. Does anyone know what that paste was? It was brown and had a very different flavor.

Sorry guys, I don't have the recipe for Kimchi anymore, it was so cheap and convenient just to but it at the store. You can find all this stuff at Korean food marts and some asian food stores. I will give the Bulgogi another try again though!!!! I will not let it beat me!!!!![IMG]
However, the next scheduled smoke will be tomorrow. I will be sure to watch this one closely!!!!

    Here's a preview...

    Kalbi...(Korean short ribs)

    The marinade.....

Thanks for your support and looking at this mess.....LOL [IMG]
  16. Good luck with the next attempt. You'll nail this one now that you know what to look out for!
  17. Korean food is very addicting!!! I ate it for lunch 2 to 3 times each week during my residency.
