I have had the Bradley smoker for some time now but am a little fed up withe fact that I can only use wood disks bought from them. It has always worked fine but I am going to make it my fish and cheese only smoker. I ordered the GOSM wide body from Home Depot and it should be here in a week or so. I have a couple of questions about some mods. When doing the coffee can mod, how long does the wood smoke for before you have to add more? Do you have to presoak your wood? I have also read that guys are fabbing up a needle valve control for there gas. Is this also a neccesary adjustment to smoke at the lower temps? Are there any other modifications that you can suggest. I just want to be prepared for when it gets here so I can get it up and smoking as fast as possible. Thanks once again

Congrats on the new smoker. I can't get my GOSM below about 225 but then again I'm in Fl. so I'll probally do the needle valve. I tried not soaking my chips and I did have flames of course the drip pan blocked them from getting to the meat. I didn't do the coffee can yet I just got another chip box and change them out. I think the stack mod is great for keeping the rain and bugs out may also help with draft to lower temps gonna have to try it

I have a Big Block GOSM and to be honest with you this smoker works great right out of the box. I use the coffee can for low temp smoke such as Jerky. Then I simply remove the tray the smoke box sits on and place it on the bottom grease tray, then I put the coffee can on that. That gets the can close to the flame. I have no problems with mine on the low temps. Jerky at 185º is just above the low setting and that was a 48º outside temperature last weekend. Maybe the Wide Body is different.

Thanks walking dude. I saw that thread just before I posted mine but it didn't really answer any of the questions that I had. Which is why I wanted to throw it out to all ya'll who might know the answers to my questions

Cool! I like my GOSM. Added the stack for weather and a bit more draw, Watertight fitting for my therm cables, 9X9 cake pan for a chip box. There are other things I've added, but that's for sausage. Good luck and enjoy the new smoker!

I believe it will likely be necessary to add the needle valve to get low temps. I've only tested mine, but I ran it as low as it would go and it went into the 220 deg F range. I'm in the process of adding a needle valve to my gas lines.

There are a number of mods discussed on this particular board, check them out first and decide if you're interested in adding a stack, a thermostat, access ports, etc.

Enjoy!,
Jon

Congrads on our new smoker. I have a big block with no mods. I am considering the needle valve and a few racks. Other than that, works awesome.
Andy.

Congrats on the new smoker.................I agree with your thoughts on the bradly, pucks are a little spendy and can only get whet they make.....But now you have the best of both worlds................

Did you order it online from Depot? If you ordered it in the store, how did you pull that off? I ordered mine from them a month ago, and they won't do in store ordering for online stuff.....

I'm getting one from Bass Pro this weekend. I need to call them and make sure they have it though.
