a butcher just told me that for smoking a brisket it should be bought on the bone from the butcher - is this true?

can anyone help me out by giving me some tips on how i should ask for the cut of brisket for my first smoke?

Thanks

i have NEVER seen a brisket with a bone........your butcher is misleading you.........

a packer is what i smoke.........but some folks can't find a whole packer......a packer cut is a point and flat.......like in corned beef........most folks can only find a flat.............which will work.........

look to the left of the page.......under the column titled......how to article and links by Jeff.......look down the list till you find brisket

Looks like the bone thingy popped up again. I had brought this up last week about a guy who asked if I wanted the bone in . And NO bubba I didn't visit the establishment yet. And the guy I was talking to out of capac about purchasing a packer seems to no longer exist. I left numerous messages and he don't call back. He does a good job on deer though Well the one my brother got anyway
