It had been a while since I had fired up Lala and it must've been time because I was notified last week that one of my dearest friends lost her husband to suicide. We have known each other for over 10 years and started our professional careers together at the same company, on the same team, sharing a cubicle. Jon and I went to her wedding and it was tragic that she ended up burying him on their would-be 8 year anniversary.
Not dealing well with funerals my first and only thought was to get her and her immediate family some food (they didn't have any children but her family was close and his was flying into town). Thought a pork bbq would be appropriate and smoked up 18# of pork, 3 slabs or pork spare ribs (rubbed with Jeff's rub), and a double batch of Dutch's beans. Bought bags o' buns and some bbq sauce and delivered to her door, which they immediately unwrapped as I got the trays in and was being munched on as I finally sat down.
