Smoking Fanatic

Bad news first. My fridge went out. Good news, got another one for $100. Better news, I'm turning the old one into a smoker.
Here's the problem. It's a side by side. I figure I can use the freezer side for a smoke chamber of some sort, but I definitely need to limit the size of the inside. Maybe a steel bucket and a pipe to move the smoke to the fridge side?
It is metal between the outside walls and interior walls, but the interior of the doors are plastic and will be removed. Plus it has an icemaker door on the freezer side.
I guess the question is, can it be done? Better yet, have any of you done it? If so what do i need?
Thanks everyone in advance.
