A buddy of mine sent me a picture of a meatloaf he made yesterday and it got me thinking.  Hmmm... I'm hungry for meatloaf!

I rarely make meatloaf so used this recipe http://www.smokingpit.com/recipes/Signature-Meatloaf.htm The only thing I did differently was I wrapped it in bacon.  Isn't everything better wrapped in bacon?

I love this smoker, probably cause I built it with scraps I had laying around.


Here is the final product about 6 hours later... it was a big loaf.  lol


This meatloaf turned out really good.  It's really moist.  I'll be making this again

The heck with the loaf, thats a neat little smoker you have there.

Ok, just posted a picture of it sliced, so you can see the inside.  It's very moist and tasty.  I don't think it turned out to bad, for my first try at smoking a meatloaf

Nice looking loaf and smoker. If you have pics of your smoker build you should start a thread. I know a lot of us would enjoy seeing it.

Hey David,

Thanks for the compliments.  It does seem more people are interested in the smoker than they are in the loaf. haha.  I'm reluctant to post a thread on the smoker build because I didn't take the precautionary steps necessary to make this smoker safe to use.  Maybe if I build a safer one in the future I'll share the inner workings of that one.
 
Saw this and had to try it......halved the above recipe and it's still HUGE!

Bacon weaved and loaf log rolled....

Smoked @ 240F untill IT of 165F....took around 4.5hrs

All in all a damn fine loaf...plenty of flavor and juicy. Next time I try it I'll tighten it up a little (just personal preference).

haha... I only made half the recipe also, and it's still a heck of a loaf!  lol.  Next time I'm making 2 loafs with a half recipe.  I had fun making it, I'm glad you did also.  Really nice looking loaf there, thanks for sharing!!!

Please post some info about your smoker design! That is an amazing idea!! Add a disclaimer that it can only be used in a bonfire pit or something to make yourself comfortable. I have come across other posts with cardboard box smokers. Just hate to see anything innovative not be shared and you have a winner!

Puke, thanks for the comment.  The bonfire pit disclaimer is pretty funny.  I built the smoker with scraps I had laying around.  If you can build a wooden box, you can most likely build this smoker.  My suggestion is to just be creative and see what you come up with!  I used the Kreg Jig and screws to join the boards.  The heat inside the smoker caused some of the joints to pull apart, so around the cooking area instead of just screwing more boards on to cover the joints, I decided to use reflectix.  I had it laying around anyway.  Reflectix is just a bubble wrap insulation with foil on the outside.  I figured this would give a little extra insulation, be light weight, and look a little different/odd/maybe even cool at the same time.  The reflectix seems to be working fine on the outside of the smoker because most of the heat is trapped inside.  Reflectix would melt and burn if used on the inside of the smoker.   Anyway, that's the smoker in a nutshell.  There are better ways to build this smoker, but like I said, "I used what I had laying around"

Disclaimer:  Any smoker made of wood has a very high probability of starting on fire.  Do not use a wooden smoker near anything that could catch on fire.  Improper use of a wooden smoker could result in loss of the following, but is not limited to only these items:  Loss of patio furniture, automobile, near by trees, the whole forest, storage sheds, the garage, your home, the neighbors garage, the neighbors home, your life, the lives of your loved ones, the neighbors life and his or her loved ones.  I'm sure you can think of many other items that might start on fire also, so make sure to keep those items away from this smoker also!  If you choose to build one of these death machines (a wooden smoker) keep a close eye on it at all times,  Wear protective gear and have a fire extinguisher handy.  The risk of fire is very high!  You have been warned.
