Years ago I got got really friendly with the owner of a Chinese Restaurant. One day I asked him if it was true that they eat and sell Cats...He told me Yes they eat them and are delicious but would never share the delicacy with a Round Eyed Devil...

He almost pee'd himself laughing at the look on my face!...JJ

I saw it and thought about posting it but didn't want to start a riot! Just talked to the butcher at a little market west of me. Skin on (65#)or skinless (35#) bellies will run me $2.99 lb. I'll be ordering some as soon as I have room in the freezer and buy another fridge for curing. They also had butts on sale for $1.19 lb...I came home with 12.

Sqwib, when it comes to cats...there's about 2 dozen running around here...shipping is free if it means they'll quit using my yard as a litter box!

40% of our corn is going to make fuel that gives lousy mileage.  Throw in the drought and you have a perfect storm.

Good luck and good smoking.
That's the whole problem in a nut shell. Unfortunately you're preaching to the choir. As Charlton Heston said " They will have to pry my bacon out of my cold dead hands"

12! That's a freezer full!
I figured pork, and most likely beef too, will go up due to the drought. I don't look forward to it at all. The cheapest I've found pork butts around here was $1.59.... :(

Guys, we are looking at this shortage thing all wrong.....

When the coming shortage hits, the commercial producers will be impacted the most.  Just think of the wonderful skills this group here has been steadily honing over the past few years.  We may be the bacon masters of the future and can trade a freshly smoked slab of "craft" bacon for who knows what?  A tank of gasoline, a few cases of beer,  who knows since there are a lot of bacon-o-holics out there who will have no other source for their fix.....

Never thought this smoking thing would lead to standing on a street corner and whispering...... "hey buddy, need bacon (as you flip out the side of an overcoat to display a rack hanging under the coat side).

I also found this guy on the web - no cash, just bacon for barter...

Wild hog infestations plague many areas of the country. They are mean, ill tempered and hard to catch and still the nature lovers plead for their freedom. If pork prices go way up, it will become a self solving problem. I hope wild turkeys are next. ( the bird not the bottle) "Cook Free or Die"

Looks like I have a way to justify buying a bow....... The boss said we could not do it right now......... Well from the way it may go with meat prices.....if she wants meat on the table we may not have a choice.......we have pleanty wild hogs around here and some turkeys too......not going to say what we have around here would classify as dear in some parts, but it is meat....

Bow hunting is a sporting art. If you can feed your family with what you hunt with a bow you are exceptional. Anyone can use a scatter gun, Bow hunters are the elite. This of course implies permission from the "Boss".
