We have a hard time getting bellies locally as it is - this will not be fun

A pork price hike is going to really hurt. Seems like everything I'm interested in or need to buy is always going through some kind of disaster.

On the News I was watching this morning it was just a blurb with no detail...I almost choked on my Bacon and Eggs...Finished Smoking on Sat. Cost $2.99 a Pound for 24Lb of skin on Bellies...JJ

40% of our corn is going to make fuel that gives lousy mileage.  Throw in the drought and you have a perfect storm.

Good luck and good smoking.

I haven't gotten a good deal on anything but chicken in about 5 months. That's the last time I got pork butts for under $1.00 a pound. The best I've seen is a "case price" at Sam's for $1.34 a pound last week.

I read this article on Slate back at the end of July, noting the lunacy of the Ethanol policy.  (the U.S. ethanol industry is using domestic corn to make ethanol (which we have to much of) and shipping that fuel to Brazil while domestic livestock producers are importing Brazilian corn so they can produce bacon in America.) The article said bacon prices would go up.  Should have stocked up then.

Wow I really stirred up the hornets nest. You can do a lot of things but don't mess with a mans bacon!

We have kind of the same scenario here.. I work at the port loading ships with fertilizer... well.. Tropicana is here in our town and here's the deal with keeping OJ prices up... So they will pull up an OJ ship to another dock..... Then the trucks from Tropicana will start rolling in and they start off-loading from the trucks on to the front of the ship... and at the same time... off-loading OJ that's imported from Brazil on to trucks (although not Tropicana trucks) at the back of the ship.. I see it about 2-3 times a month during season... Tell me that ain't a crock of chit...

Hell with it
if pork prices go to high i'll start smoking squirrel, when that runs out it'll be cats then dogs
