Good morning fellow smokers and Happy Mother's Day to all the smoking moms on the board.  Yesterday I picked up an 8# boston butt from a butcher in my area.  This was my first time trying his store and I was inpressed.  I will be visiting him again.  Here's a Qview of my rubbed butt

Starting the smoke (about 6:30 am)

I'm planning to cook a small brisket and some ABT's for the family also. I think I'd better grill some ribs and chicken so they can eat at a decent time.   I'll be back with a progress report later.

great looking butt... what time do you plan on eating?
Well I was hoping for 6:30ish, but the butt may be for tomorrow's dinner LOL.  I'm having a little problem getting my temp up.  I'm thinking the charcoal pan is too low. i used a mod that I found on the Brinkman site and not the one on SMF.   I'll fix that later, but in the mean time I need to find a way to raise that bowl.  Be back later.

Three hours in.  My smoker's temp is now starting to get better, it's at 230 now.  The butt's IT is 108.  I'm using Cowboy brand lump charcoal so now I'm getting better temps (still going to do more mods).  Here's what it looks like

The butt's been on for about 7.5 hrs and the IT is 159.  Think it'll be ready by 6:30 or 7?  I sure hope so.  LOL

sure do have a nice looking butt there... wrap it in foil... that will get it done in time for dinner... don't forget the (at least) 1 hr rest in the cooler...

Butt is foiled and back in the smoker:

I noticed the the temp went up while I was foiling it.

I forgot to take a picture of the brisket while I had the butt out but after 3.5 hours it's IT was 151.  It only weighed about 5.5 lbs.  We may be eating a little later but one can hope.  Slaw and potatoe salad is made and green beans.  Just waiting on the meat.

The butt is now in the cooler and will be pulled soon.  And of course I will be using Jeff's finishing sauce.

Thank you Jeff for the finishing sauce.  That really made the meat shine.  (though 2 of my family members wanted more vinegar LOL)  The smoke was perfect.  My chef son stopped by and was truly surprised at my first attempt (he's worked in bbq restaurants and said mine could sell ***grin***).  If it weren't for you awesome smokers, this day may not have happened.  Thank you all.  So here's your Qview my friends.

The finished product (I almost pulled it before I remembered to take the picture.

It was soo easy to pull this meat.  It was almost falling off the bone and oh the juice and finishing sauce.

Potato salad.  Got these multi colored potatoes from BJ's.  It was a mixture of youkon gold, red and purple potatoes and yes the meat in there was purple.
