Hey guys, been a lurker for a couple of weeks. I'm your standard backyard grill fanatic that was tired of pulling off the expanded metal cooking surface (with food still on it) to throw in some fresh soaked mesquite chips. Just didn't know there were so may choices out there. After researching to the point of doing nothing at all I bought a used grill/smoker from a friend I work with. He has 3 or 4 grill/smokers and said this was too big for just him and his wife (he likes his green egg). Anyway, he sold me a "super cajun grill" with firebox attachment for $300. He said he used it once (looks like new).
What now? I want to fire it up...but any tips other than a good cleaning? Seasoning ? Anybody have one of these things? Thanks for any and all advice!

Bout time you quit lurking Huey!! Glad you found us. I've been using propane so probly not the guy to give you answers on this but a lot of folks will be by shortly to fill you in. Hang on and enjoy the ride!

Welcome to SMF! I use an electric, so I'm no help, but you'll have an answer shortly!

As far as seasoning the smoker, if it's been used once for a few hours, it's already seasoned.

Welcome to the SMF, sounds like we may have another Slick Driver here

Welcome to the SMF!
I'm not familiar with a super cajun grill, but I have a horizontal with an offset firebox. Would love to see pictures!!

Welcome to the SMF! If you have a moment or two, post some pix of your newest addition to your backyard...

I would clean the inside with soap and water, and maybe a pressure washer, dry it, then season the entire inside with Pam or some sort of cooking oil. Fire that puppy up to 350-400 and season it for a couple of hours. After that, you should be good to go.

Good luck!

Wecome to the SMF. Nice to know you've got some good smokes ahead of you! Feel free to ask any questions, we're a freindly bunch that is more than willing to help you. Good Luck my new friend!

Thanks for the welcome folks. Cowgirl..my computer expertise is on par with emergency procedures and limitations of this new(used) smoker still in the back of my truck. Pictures will have to wait until one of my resident high schoolers get home to guide me thru it. Blackhawk19...was going to use MH60blackhawk but didn't want to cruise when NOE was called for, FYI (started TH55,UH-1 then OH58A,AH1G,then back UH-1..UH60/A..MH60/A). Monstah...what no sandblastin' and hand rubbed oil? Dingle..looking forward to the ride..it's always about the ride!

Welcome Huey!
post some pix, it must be an off brand, well, could be anyway... but that don't mean SQUAT! Twixt you and this VAST knowledge base-you'll be the "king-o-Q" in no time!

Richtee..don't really know much about the brand. My friend says he paid retail ...about 1400.00 My buddy says,"Give me $300 its yours plus all of this pecan tree (cut down for his new deck being built). Math seemed good enough, plus I was tired of looking at every possible smoker built since the first piece of smoked meat!

Welcome to SMF, Huey! Sounds like you got a GREAT deal!!! A bargain on the smoker and lots of wood thrown in. If the wood hasn't dried/cured for a few months, don't use it until it has. It could give you some nasty tastes.

Make yourself at home and explore the forum. We're glad you joined us.
