  1. Hello all,
My wife just gave me a Masterbuilt MES40 for our anniversary. I'm new to smoking, I've had some success using a smoke box on my Weber Genesis, but I've been wanting to get a dedicated smoker for a while. This looks like a pretty cool forum, I have a feeling that I'll be spending entirely too much time here!
  2. Hello and Welcome to our addiction.  A word of warning: There is no 12 step program for this one!  Many good folk here with a load of experience that they are more than willing to share.  If you have specific questions just start a thread and someone with experience will be along soon to offer advice.  All info you can provide us with such as smoker type, location and so on will help us answer any questions you may have.  Spend some time doing some research on the forums, tons of advice and recipes already available there.  We look forward to your contributions.  Have fun.  Good luck.  Keep Smokin!

  3. [IMG]Hello and welcome from East Texas. This is a great site, lots of information and great people that are willing to throw in their two cents worth on about anything.

Welcome from a neighbor in Florida
  5. Well, so much for my new MES40. Unpacked and assembled it last night. Went to season it this morning. I'm at 2 hours now and have yet to reach 140. Reading reviews of this unit, I see that this is nothing uncommon. Needless to say, I am less than thrilled. Now I have to decide if I should return it to Sam's (80 miles) or suck it up and call Masterbuilt for a controller (and remote, which doesn't work either).

Bummed out, I was all set to try my first smoke.

I am not real familiar with electrics but know if it is cold out it may have issues. You also want a short extension cord as possible if one is needed and a heavy gauge one too. Atleast that was some things I have heard along the way on them.
  7. It was around 60 here today, so that wasn't the problem. I returned the unit to Sam's and brought home another. I'm seasoning it right now. So far, so good. It reached 275 in about 30 minutes. Right now it runs just a bit hot (it's at 299), but from what I gather, that is fairly normal for these units. I'll try out a pork loin this week and see how it performs. If it does happen to crap out on me, I'll pick up a 1st Gen unit from Academy Sports.
  8. Welcome from Maryland. There are tons of great people here with a lot of knowledge and more than willing to share it.

Just make sure you don't over do the loin. I only take mine to around 145-150 now with the new guidelines. Wrap and let rest for 30 minutes, then slice. Good luck.
