Correct.  But my chiploader is pulled out and provides enough air flow later on in the smoke (no probs with AMPS once its lit), so punching this hole may help with initial startup, but wont be necessary later on.

Successful so far, ended up using foil balls to raise the AMNPS up for lack of finding anything better laying around the house. Since we are having thunderstorms and 90% humidity here I just took the chip loader and tray out to make sure AMNPS had enough oxygen to stay lit through the night, and it's still smokin'. Note the chimney cap I bought for $11 at home depot to keep the rain out, and high tech attachment method.

I don't get it my amnps never goes out just sitting on the bottom left side. I use a fireplace wood starter. Comes in a brick kinda soft , just tear a piece off and put in the where the hole is and light it. Let it sit about 20 min and it's good to go.

Just as a Tip----Try to find something narrow to raise the AMNPS up off the floor, so it doesn't block too many of the perforations in the floor or sides of the AMNPS.

Foil balls under the corners of the AMNPS did the job in a pinch, I will look for/make something better soon. Propane torch worked great but the fire starter idea sounds good- I make camping fire starters out of dryer lint or cotton balls and Vaseline, why wouldn't that work. I just took the chip loader out overnight as a precaution, I had never used the AMNPS before and since it was so humid with no wind, I wanted to be extra sure it stayed lit. I have to say it worked absolutely perfectly, people are still raving about the insanely good pulled pork. It just fell apart in my hands, didn't have to shred anything. I got some awesome silicone gloves at Costco that allow you to just dig right in without too much heat, highly recommended, they are blue and I only ever saw them once in the cooking department at the Costco Business Center here in San Diego.
