AMNPS and Temps.

Does the AMNPS make temperatures in electric smokers go up ? Lit my new AMNPS with oak on one end and hickory on the other end and after drying sausage at 130 degrees for two hours raised the temp to 140 and put the AMNPS in the smoker. Got lots of smoke but temp rose to almost 160 degrees. No fluctuating between 144 and 160 degrees. Is this normal ?

I am not yet familiar with the temp affects of the AMNPS but I do know Electrics can jump when the Heating Element turns on...This may be what you are seeing...JJ

My 2cents worth.

I too have the AMPS pellet smoke from Tod Johnson, shortly after I recieved  it, I loaded it up with apple pellets and put it in my Brinkman round upright smoker, I did not light the burner.

The ambient temp outside was 66 degrees, The pellet smoker raised the inside temp to 113 degrees. Please remember this is not an electric, it is a gas burner fired smoker.

I'm just saying that the Amps does add a small amount of heat.

The AMNPS was designed to be used for hot smokes. The pellets do create some heat. If you want to smoke with minimal heat you need to use dust in the smoker
