1/2 butt roast on the mes...first time qview

  1. Got the retrofit installed, and wow, FEED ME.  it likes the pellets.  rubbed in Sucklebusters hog waller.  qview to follow...
     
  2. First time I was able to get a bark.  The retrofit seemed to make all the difference. took about 2 hours to get thru the plateau, and pulled it at 190°

    Dang! Looking good. What retrofit did you add? That's some good lookin bark.
     
  8. got the larger chip holder.  it really does make a huge difference.  I also left the vent full open at the top and pulled out the chip loader a little.  I'm going to cut out the metal making the loader smaller.  think this will help with airflow.  Also, this was a mix of mostly apple pellets with some hickory added in.

    Ahhh, gotcha. I still have the smaller chip holder. Thought I'd give it a shot before calling for the larger or going ahead and getting the AMNS. Happy smoking to ya!

    Did you foil that butt ? Or did you cook it all the way to get that bark? I have some in right now and its about 165 so I'm wondering whether to foil it 

    or let it go. First butt smoke with the MES
     

  11. No foil, and no water in the pan.  I won't pull the next one till 200°  foil won't hurt it, but may affect the bark.
