Anyone tired Todd's Charcoal pellet?  I need to place and order for Hickory but I'm curious as to the Charcoal flavored. How authetic is it?  We all know, ain't nothing sweeter than the smell of charcoal burning.

Thanks!

Glad we're all on the same page.  Cause if the charcoal pellets performs as if I want them to.  Good lawd, it'll be my new favorite.

Hey Guys

My charcoal pellets are 70% Charcoal and 30% Oak...At least that's what the MFG. tells me.

I've tried them

Yes, they do give you a more charcoal flavor

Yes, they make starting the AMNPS a little easier

No, they did not give me a noticeable smoker ring

They do burn "HOT" compared to other pellets

I can agree w/ todd as for the smoke ring question.  What I have done is chip up some kings ford and mix with some pitmasters deluxe to get the eye candy.
How about some pics?  Say 3 different smokes of ribs and 3 different smokes of pork butt to see if the results are consistent.  Many of us over the years have tried various briquettes in different sizes, makes, quantities, procedures, and the results are mixed and never consistent.

The problem with getting Smoke Rings has little to do with What you burn, types of wood, natural charcoal or charcoal briquettes, it's all about Quantity of wood or charcoal burning. The more wood or charcoal burning the great amount of Nitrogen Dioxide, the more Nitrites and Nitrates are formed and the greater the Smoke Ring. There is simply NO WAY a 2" X 2" pile of burning Pellet, of any kind, in an AMNPS, will generate the same Volume of Nitrogen Gasses as a 12" X 12" pile of  burning Wood or Charcoal will. If you HAVE to see a Smoke Ring add a Half Teaspoon of Cure #1 to a couple Cups of Cold water and Soak the meat for a couple of hours. Smoke as usual in your Electric Smoker with AMNPS and..." POOF! " Perfect Smoke Ring every time! Impress your Friends...Amaze your Family...But....Shhhhhush, only you know the Secret....Hehehehe....JJ

Next time I smoke something (maybe the CSR receipe) on friday or saturday I remember to get some pictures. I tried my new method on some very cheap feather bones last week and I got the eye candy. I put 2 or 3 briquettes near the heating element (on my ceramic briquettes) and chipped up 3 or so Kingsford hickory briquettes and mixed them in with the PitMaster Deluxe Pelletts. When the meat was done I got the eye candy.

If I did not live in a 120 y/o apartment with a wooden deck, I could get me a stick burner or an offset smoker, but I have to live within the rules.

Sometimes its all about appearance (22 years of drum corps has taught me that).

I totally believe you have had a good result with a few Briquettes burning...My point was the AMNPS by itself, regardless of what type of pellets you use, is insufficient to generate enough Nitrogen Dioxide to make a smoke ring...This comes up frequently...Has been tested more than once and even with Charcoal the results are mixed and inconsistent...JJ

So.. Will the charcoal pellets generate the same amount of smoke as the other pellets? Or are they really designed  to help get things burning and add a few here and there within the rows of the AMPS?
