What is the best blender or device to mix rub in?  I tried making Jeff's rub manually with a sifter and it took too long.   Has anyone tried a "Waring Spice Grinder"?

This is the best low cost grinder for spices......

I've made Jeff's rub several times now. All I used was a whisk. I keep my brown sugar in a sealed bag in the extra refrigerator; so I don't have much of a problem with lumps. I've had no problems with other ingredients. I think any food processor or blender using a low speed would get it done.

Good question!!

I have a dedicated grinder similar to the one Martin showed - for bigger batches I use the one like Scott showed you don't have to do much more than pulse a few times and it is good to go

All I do is "measure" (really I make it by smell and taste) my ingredients into an old, bigger sized, Lawreys Shaker.   shake it, play catch with your kid brother, roll it, whatever you want to do to mix it.

Sounds like it could be messy with a handheld beater, but if you have a Kitchen Aid or Hobart mixer like the one in the link, it would work fine.     Although it doesnt really matter how its done, as long as it works for you.

I have a kitchen aid but the hand held works great. Don't get why you said it would be messy, unless like you said beater (which I guess you meant the old manual type). But I said mixer which I mean as electric, which works the same as the Kitchen Aid just hand held.

I hear ya.   I just know if anyone like me tried it, they would forget to make their rub ahead of time, and rush to get it ready, and put it on high speed or something.  Haha, I tend to do that...

I would think it depends on how much you plan to make in a batch and what equipment you already have.

I use my 11 cup Cuisinart food processor. But, if I was buying just for spice it would be overkill.

This will do about 100Lbs or so...

...I use a 1Cup Coffee Grinder for whole spices and mix up to 5Cup Batches in a 1Gal Hvy Ziplock Freezer Bag. Anything bigger I would try my 5QT Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer...JJ

If pre ground, I use a lidded container and hammer (i.e. shake the hell out of it) it for a while until blended.  If using any fresher ingredients (black peppercorns, coriander, fresh cumin or dried peppers etc.), I have a coffee grinder dedicated to spices that I use, then refer to the first sentence.

I Do a bit of catering etc, have a large trailer mounted rig. I mix my Rub about 15 LBS at a time. this is about 3/4 of a 5 gallon bucket. I have been using a Scepter ODD Job 7 gallon mixer. roll it back and forth on a counter for about 5 minute then transfer to 1 gallon buckets for storage.   this mixer is made for construction applications, but mixes spices very quickly and thoroughly.
