I am neither Irish nor a beer drinker but I did pick up two packer briskets yesterday. I am going to separate the point from the flat from one of them in about an hour and start a corned beef for corned beef and cabbage. Who else is doing corned beef and cabbage for next weekend?

Since Mrs. Billdawg has to work next weekend, we have no menu plans, but I did take advantage of corned beef briskets being on sale at the store. Picked up a 4 lb flat for $11.00. It is currently soaking in the fridge and will go in the smoker for pastrami tomorrow morning.

I picked up corned beef flat at the supermarket and I'll be cooking mine. I read the recipe you posted, I've never added turnips nor the cilantro. I always do mine in the dutch oven in the oven low and slow for several hours. Let us know how your corning process works out. I'd like to try making my own corned beef sometime.

Im thinking about doing that too and making burnt ends from the point.

It maybe a little late, bbut I just picked up my brisket this morning. I paid $3.49 a pound! Ouch!. I wish I had the time to go to wallymart. Oh well. Time to get picklin'. Do ya mind if I post my pics here since you asked who else was doing one? Good luck with yours Joel.

Bought a whole bottom round roast to make my corn beef. Put it in the brine on Friday.  Here are some pictures.

Thinking of smoking some to make pastrami.

Ahh!  St. Patrick's Day!

Forty-one years ago, St. Pat's Day, 1971, I met my bride-to-be.  This year, we celebrate our 40th Anniversary three days before St. Pat's Day, the 14th.  That's right, we didn't even date one full year.

However, come the 17th, I'm smokin' the whole weekend.  Briskets, ribs, a chicken or two, and more briskets.  Going 'round the clock.   Our office is celebrating a Spring Fling the followiing Tuesday, and guess who is supplying the meat?   THE LONE REALTOR SMOKES AGAIN!  Will have the Big Mom Moo fired up as well as my new Little Mom Moo.  Will furnish photos for the forum.

Go for it Pete.

The packaged corned beef flats were about a dollar cheaper per lb than the packers. Go figure. I could have bought the corned beef but I like to do my own.. Beef prices are gettin scary.
