Wanted to do some PP for some time now...Picked up some butts rubbed them down, was waiting for a good calm day as the wind really messes with my temps...
Got the AMNPS for Christmas and had not used it yet. Ordered up a mix of pellets, some hickory, mesquite, cherry, and pecan. Did a dry burn in the grill and a test in the smoker with less than desirable results. Tried some moink balls last night for another 'test' before I did a PP run. Little better but not by much.
Testing aside I couldn't wait any longer, this morning was go time, wind or not. It was / is windy...Ended up having to wrap the smoker in a wool moving blanket to insulate so I could hit my temp...I moved the AMNPS to a different location from my testing, layed some pieces of HD foil under it, and about 4 hours into my PP run all the pellets are burning once again. I pulled the AMNPS dumped, re-filled, lit and this time placed it in my cast iron skillet on a rack under my drip pan. Hopefully this will shield the heat enough to keep from burning up all my pellets. Any recommendations to keep this sucker from burning up all my pellets?
Thought I'd share some pics as well, that is what we're all here for right? More to come...
First attempt, no foil under AMNPS, worked good as far as burning, then a little too good, this is when I added foil below it...
