Hi

I recently purchased a smoke generator from amazenproducts. I guess it was too good to be true, hours of perfect smoke with no hassle. I'm using a char-griller with a side fire box & no mods to the smoker. My probelm is the smoke generator will not stay lit when I put it in the smoker. It goes out in a matter of minutes no matter how I try to adjust the draft or position it in the smoker. Anybody using the same setup as I am and had any success? Help!

Thanks,

Al

Your Chargriller should have plenty of draft, so it's gotta be the pellets are not started correctly.

Start the pellets thru the starter hole and allow the little flame to burn on top the pellets for 5-10 minutes, and then blow it out.  I would lean towards 10 minutes.

If it's going out right away, it's most likely not started correctly.

Don't rush the starting process!

What pellets are you using?

Are the rows filled close to the top with pellets?

Thanks for your input. I'm using the smoker that uses the sawdust. I tried to open the vents more to allow more air to the smoker, but all I got was excessively high temps in the chamber & still no smoke. Good point about the lighting process, maybe I was not letting it fire up enough before putting it in the chamber (I wish that tip was in the user guide). I'll take your advise & try that next time. Thanks again!

I assumed you were using the Pellet Smoker....OOPS!

Where are you placing it in the chargriller?

Did you light both ends?

Charcoal takes most of the available oxygen inside a smoker, so you need to place the AMNS next to an intake, before the charcoal.

Check your PM

I placed the smoker on the cooking grid as far as possible from the heat source (charcoal this time). This Char-griller is rather leaky, so I was surprised a lack of oxygen may be an issue. Maybe I can modify the Char-griller with another air intake just for the smoke generator.

Thanks,

Al

Does your chargriller have a side box?

You would be amazed at how much oxygen charcoal eats up.

Every year, someone dies in a fishhouse because they burned charcoal for heat.
