Had my MES 40 for a few weeks, did a couple smokes using my trusty AMNS, and encountered the what happens when you use the amazing cold smoke device for hot smoking.  Lucky for me, and thanks to the equally amazing Todd Johnson, I was able to get one of the first AMPS.  First smoke under my belt, and I have to say....it's awesome!

First, a couple shots of my new AMNPS,

First up, a 6 lb rib roast.  I bought this at a nearby meat shop -- Marshaville Meats.  It's a meat packing facility that has some excellent local beef, pork, chicken, etc.  I rubbed it down the night before in olive oil, some salt, garlic and Montreal steak.  Wrapped up in plastic wrap for the night.  Here it is ready to go....

While I was at Marshalville Meats I picked up a package of bacon ends -- $2 -- I knew I could do something with these.  How about bacon kabobs?  I placed these in the smoker for about 2 1/2 hours (at about 225), then pulled them out, basted half with maple syrup, and half with sweet baby ray's bbq sauce.

Here's the MES loaded up with the rib roast, a split chicken and the bacon kabobs.  No other pics of the chicken....sorry!  Just look at the lovely sweet smoke my new AMNPS puts off......can't you just smell and taste it??

When I pulled the rib roast out -- cooked to 132, double foiled, wrapped and set to rest, we munched on these.  We dubbed them candied pork pillows.....quite tasty,  I'm glad I have another pack in the the fridge!

And now, the main event....round for round, pound for pound, there ain't no finer roast around....man, I love those beef rib roasts!

Carved up, ready to go.  For me, cooked just perfect....

Oh, just look at that juice!

All and all I have to say....it was fantastic.  The family agreed, gobbling it up, and asking when will I make some more.  I made a couple of rib roasts in the past in my WSM.  To be honest, this was every bit as good.  I am sure I'll return to my trusty WSM when I feel the need to have some real fire.  But it's hard to beat the ease, and taste of the MES using the AMNPS.

I bought the MES planning on using my AMNS.  I have not used the chip tray at all -- and at this point, with the AMNPS, I can't see a reason why I would.  I got a nice variety of pellets -- looking forward to trying some of the Bourbon barrel next.

A special thanks to Todd Johnson.  He really came through with this little unit, and I appreciate so much that he sold me one of the first units.  He's a first rate guy, as so many people here have written.  Thanks Todd!!

Hope you enjoyed my first MES/AMNPS Qview as much as me and my family did.

Thanks everyone!

For a great Job!!!!!Looks amazing!  Now I'm hungry!

Huh?  I might have to see if bacon kabobs would sell?!!!!Sounds healthy!!HAHA!

SOB
SOB, I bet they would sell!  Healthy, I dunno......tasty, you bet!

great job. Have to go to butcher shop NOW !
Thanks for the great pictures. Will the Amns use dust too ?
Larry -- the AMNPS will use dust as well as pellets.  I plan on using dust for cold smokes as Todd has indicated it gives off less heat.  The pellets produce a bit more heat on their own, and combined with the design change, hold up well in higher temps.  It's a very versatile device!

AMAZING Post!

Great variety of foods smoked at the same time.

The new Pellet Burner will also burn sawdust, so guys with a supply will still be able to use it.

Pellets burn a little hotter, so sawdust may be a better choice for cold smoking things like cheese.

Thanks for the GREAT post!

Todd

I guess I gotta get me one of those new pellet burners. Dang Todd you gotta quit making all these new toys that we just can't live without.

Al, you will be glad you did!  Todd really has a great line -- I own two now, and am so glad I do.  The AMNPS does such an excellent job at hot smoking -- I don't think my MES will ever see wood chips!
