How's everyone?!

Really glad to get in on this smoking action, this is gonna be a blast...got a Char-Griller barrel smoker/grill as a gift last year but just did the maiden smoking voyage 2 weeks ago. Did some spareribs, 1/2 mesguite rub and 1/2 just s & p, both were tasty-real happy with them as a first run...was able to get my smoker up to temp pretty easily, but couldn't resist peeking in too often so had to do the last 45 min. in the oven.

Last week did some corn and tried out some pineapple chunks, think I left those in too long though, pretty strong and acidic-

Love food altogether but especially pork products, doing a 1st birthday party bbq for our son next weekend, pretty sure I'm gonna go totally off and that this process and this site are gonna take up FAR TOO MUCH of my time-

Glad to be a new member and thanks in advance everyone for all the tips and advice!

Peace, Tony D.

First off welcome Tony to SMF. You'll like it here cause there are alot of really good folks that would just love to help you with anything to do with smoking. Now we like having new folks here to give a new prospective on some of the ways we do things around here. Now if you are really new then I would suggest that you sign up fir the 5-day E-course it free and it will give you the basics on smoking and a few recipes too. Here's a link to it:

http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/forum/list/127

then you will have a method to your newly found madness and believe me it will be a madness. Then when you start smoking things you will have to learn how to post the pictures / Qview

here. So here's a link to a tutorial on how to post your Qview so we can see what your doing.

 http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/forum/thread/82034/how-to-post-qview-to-smf

Now the next thing you have to do is run out and get something to smoke. Then just smoke it and if you have any questions just post  them here and we will answer all your questions that you might have. Oh yea there's no stupid questions we were all there in the beginning and we just really like to help others enjoy the fabulous smoked foods that we do. So again

Welcome to Your New Addiction

Welcome to the SMF. Glad to have you here. Lots of good folks, great recipes and knowledge. Looking forward to your first qview.

Welcome fellow CNY'er, this is the place to be if you like any type of good eats. I hope you enjoy your stay and I look forward to you posting some of  your Q-view.

Hey all-

Thanks for the welcomes and support...this took a little while, but here's an image of my first butt. Apologies to the purists but I turned this into a slow-simmer w/ sauce for sammys at my son's b-day party. It turned out pretty tasty, everyone loved it! For my next one it will be completely cooked in the smoker w/out sauce.

Q: should I be posting Qviews under new threads?

I think that's up to you. It's a new topic and a tastie looking one too, so it is worthy of a new thread, but as long as you are posting Q-view nobodies going to complain.

What cut of butt did you get, the bone looks round and mine are always flat.

What Dan said,

Some guys post as they go. I prefer to wait until Everything is done---Then post it all.

But like Dan said, "It doesn't matter, as long as we get that beautiful Qview", like you're showing us now!

Thanks,

Bearcarver

Dan-

This started as a 10ish lb "whole butt" that I cut down, the piece closest in the pic does have a curved blade bone on the bottom- I'm still getting to know the difference between say picnic, shoulder, Boston butt, etc.

Thanks, Tony
