CrankyBuzzard's fault! We were talking about turkey in a PM and I remembered that I had a bone on breast hiding out. Pulled it out doing a quick thaw. Then into pops brine until Sunday.

I'll more than likely rotisserie this guy in the Minitisserie!

One gallon will be just perfect!

I should mention that since this bird boob is enhanced, I only added 1/4 cup of salt to the brine.

For those looking to brine birds for thanksgiving make sure you get non-enhanced birds. Birds that haven't been injected with butter, broth, sugar, salt, etc.

As you can read this one has everything but the butter. It may taste off but I won't know until we cook it. Since this brine isn't really a flavor brine it should be fine. Only doing this to get the ham taste from the cure.

Normally I'd just leave this in the garage, aka walk in fridge, unfortunately the temps are going back up tomorrow so it's going into my RTIC cooler. I picked this up a month or so ago and I am really pleased with its performance. Basically identical to the Yeti line, but half the price.

So a bit more on the RTIC cooler. This is the 45 quart model. Which is the middle of the line right now. Rumor has it they are coming out with a larger one this winter. Honestly I wouldn't want one any bigger as it would be impossible for one person to lug around. The empty cooler weighs 25 pounds. I will be ordering another one before next spring. For 1-2 day trips this would be okay but for longer trips I need more cold storage.

So onto performance and customer service.

I ordered direct from RTIC. At the time of my order that was the only option. $174 with free shipping. The website site said it would not ship until end of October. I was pleasantly surprised when I received a notice the next morning (I ordered online at 9pm) that the cooler had shipped ground UPS. I received it three days later. Of course the day I received it we went from 80+ degree weather to highs in the 40's and lows in the 20's. So my first tests weren't all that accurate. I plopped a 2 liter pop bottle of frozen water in it and after 5 days there was still ice in the bottle. It completely melted around day 8. It did warm up a bit 60's during the day and lows around 40. I have been using it daily with ice bottles just to see how it performs and its working really good. Most of the time when we camp I take frozen goods as my ice packs and I will continue to do the same. The only issue I see is that I may have to remove the frozen roasts etc. to thaw  prior to cooking. before in the crappy coolers they would do it on their own. One or to small ice packs on the bottom is all that is going to be needed and only if going longer tan 3 days.  Overall construction is great. No different than the Yeti or the other knock offs that are out there. As I mentioned earlier I will be buying another.

One more thing they just released them for sale on Amazon, with prime shipping.

I'm looking forward to seeing some breast! I have one in the freezer as well.

By the way, I researched that RTIC cooler and looked on Amazon. I ended up buying one of their 30oz tumblers in an effort to drink more water...but honestly it will probably see more beer than anything.

The main reason I bought the cooler was sparked by a conversation about the tumbler. A buddy of mine had the tumbler at camp a while back. I said hey I've been looking at those cooler. He loves the tumbler, either hot or cold he said it out performs any other insulated drinking cup he's had!
