just bought a meat band saw and am thinking about buying 1/2 cow , what should i expect the yeild to be in steaks , roasts and ground beef  ?  ( talking about 1 inch steaks )

This about about what you'll get. For a half you'll get around 275 pounds of meat +/-. Around 125 pounds will be burger. And the remaining 150 pounds will be steak, roasts ribs, etc.

Keep in mind some of this depends on the size of cow. But that is about what we averaged when we raised them with a friend. This will fill an empty full size upright freezer, so be prepared.

If the other parties don't want the tongue and heart see if you can get those. Excellent items to smoke!

You say a cow. Is it really a cow? Had calves? If so it won't yield as well. We raise butcher beef. All steers or heifers. They yield 60% of live weight. Don't know of the % of each cut.
