Hey guys,

I'm want to try making snack sticks using one of the recipes on here, but I need to get some cure.

I would like to make it this weekend, but am having a hard time finding it locally.  Does anyone have any suggestions on where I could find it locally?

I've already tried: Cabelas, Field & Stream, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, WalMart, Kroger, Gordon Foods, and a local meat processing company.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks,

Butcher shop that makes their own sausage? Maybe a local deer processor? I mean the kinda place where you take a deer you've killed and they butcher it. They usually make summer sausage so they'd have cure. Also try Amish markets. I've seen saltpetre at several of them, which is the active ingredient in cure #1. Just make sure you are positive about the amounts of any cure you use. If all else fails, you should be able to find Morton's Tenderquik. Again, the amount will be different from cure #1, but it will cure your sausage.

Do you have a Bass Pro Shop near you or Gander Mountain. They normally carry LEM cure #1.  Kroger may have Mortons Tender Quick

Be very careful with saltpetre, very dangerous unless you know EXACTLY what your doing. IMHO Stay away from it unless your going to make a "BOOMER"

Cure #1 is used at 1 level tsp per every 5lbs of meat. 2.5lbs of meat would be 1/2tsp and so on.

Also if your local walmart carries Bolner/Fiesta brand spice mixes they have some in a shaker jar. Also try Academy sports if you have one

close.

Careful of butchers shops, sometimes they mix their own with cure, sugar, salt and wont tell you how much to add. I been in some butcher shop around here in the south asking and when i get "Whats cure?" i walk out.

Thanks guys. I gave up on the local search. I had my wife order some on amazon. Free 2 Day shipping should get it here by the weekend
