Am I correct that using a AMNTS in a MES will create too much smoke?  If so, what if you fill the tube half full?  Half is defined as once the tube is in a horizontal position, only the bottom half the tube has pellets.  Wouldn't that be basically just like a long single AMNPS row?  Maybe half full is still too much, so you only fill it to 1/3 full.  Food for thought.

You are correct. I fill it vertically six inches on my twelve inch AMNTS then hold horizontally and shake till even all the way across. I don't use the front cap because it does nothing but plug the holes for good lighting. I put a flat bottom shot glass in first with the bottom of the glass against the pellets for short smokes so I don't have to separate so many lit from unlit pellets when not burning all of them because you have to dump them all out together. The AMNPS is way easier to separate.

So, then why don't we read more about users using them in their MES's, especially the 30 series since you are so close to the element when using a AMNPS ?  Maybe because we don't get such a long smoke with a AMNTS as compared to a AMNPS ?

Yep! The twelve inch AMNTS just fits door to back wall on the rails in the Mes 40 . Before I got the AMNPS I put it on at a slight diagonal. I'm not sure how deep the Mes 30's are. I wouldn't want a shorter tube. Todd will cut tubes in half. So you can get two nines out of an eighteen incher and buy a set of caps or just request two solid caps with no open caps.

Craig if you get a tube, buy the new expanding tube.

Although I have not checked the heat signature yet, I am assuming it would be hotter since it puts out so much more smoke.
